Video Surveillance Systems

The Benefits of Video Surveillance For Your Business

The days of obvious surveillance and video cameras mounted in a corner of a shop are long gone. These old security dinosaurs were made extinct by the emergence of undetectably small systems that run throughout the building, giving security eyes all over the largest store, inside and out. Not only can monitoring take place in-store, but now it can take place at the office, home or anywhere in the world, thanks to the Internet.

It used to be that only casinos, banks and airports had the kind of money to take advantage of video surveillance, but now, every store, factory, warehouse, or other place of business can afford this absolute boon to business. The theft and vandalism the systems prevented can pay for themselves, and owners, managers, and executives can sleep well at night knowing that a trusted ally has its eye on the job.

Remember the old heist and spy movies when video surveillance was thwarted by the simple means of a can of black spray-paint used on the lens of a surveillance camera? That trick has gone the way of the rotary telephone. Today, it is anybody’s guess where the surveillance cameras are hidden.

It isn’t only huge plants and factories that have big money to lose from employees with sticky fingers and time on their hands. A plating shop, by its very definition, has valuable and/or precious metals in an unsecured state. Now, stray bits of gold leaving in worker’s pockets or an employee chrome-plating his car just can’t happen with the right kind of video surveillance.

Warehouses and specialty stores no longer have to factor theft, either by “customer” or employee, into their operating budget. The perpetrators are not only caught in the act, the visual record is there as evidence against them. Insurance companies know the value of these kind of security systems; they have begun giving discounts to businesses that own them.

Shoplifters are getting more brazen by the day. Little fingernail clippers bought for less than a dollar can also clip off fancy security tags. These tags only work when unpaid-for merchandise goes through an electronic barrier, but they can’t do squat in a trash can or laying on the floor. Now, your merchandise hardly makes it out the door. Modern video surveillance picks the perpetrators up and immortalizes their failed attempts for cops, judges, and juries.

Bored teenagers don’t only mean shoplifting these days, they mean big-time vandalism. A couple of spray painters can spell money down the drain as time, money, and effort is spent erasing what is now gleefully being called “urban art”. Anyone with no business on your property can be identified, run off, or detained for the cops.

It’s hard enough to operate a business in this day and age where not only thieves, but the entire economy picks your pockets. Why not have something on your side that never sleeps, never takes a day off, and never even asks for a raise? Video surveillance is the perfect employee.
